LAHORE: The Punjab Transport Department has completed preparations for the E-Taxi Scheme. This initiative promises to create thousands of jobs while promoting eco-friendly transportation solutions across the province.
The scheme will distribute 1,100 electric vehicles including a dedicated quota for women drivers, with government subsidies covering registration and taxes.
Key Features of Punjab E-Taxi Scheme
- 1,100 e-taxis allocated in pilot phase (1,000 e-taxi for fleet owners, 100 e-taxi for individuals)
- 30 vehicles reserved exclusively for women drivers
- Interest-free installment plans through Bank of Punjab
- Government coverage of token tax, markup, and registration fees
- Complete charging infrastructure and service centers

Eligibility and Payment Structure
The scheme offers different participation models for fleet owners and individual drivers:
For Fleet Owners:
- Minimum purchase of 10 vehicles required
- 40% down payment with 60% bank financing
For Individual Drivers:
- 30% down payment for male applicants
- 40% down payment for female applicants
- Special quota to encourage women participation
Implementation Timeline
Punjab Transport Minister Bilal Akbar confirmed the scheme will be launched within next two weeks. The Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB) is developing an online portal for streamlined applications.
Nine pre-qualified vendors will supply the electric vehicles and establish necessary support infrastructure including charging stations across the province.
This initiative represents Punjab government's commitment to sustainable urban mobility while creating economic opportunities for both women and men across the province.
