Lahore Initiative Aims to Reduce Pollution and Promote Green Energy
Lahore: Senior Provincial Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb has announced a significant cash award of Rs 100,000 for citizens who convert their petrol-powered motorcycles to electric vehicles.
Key Details of the Electric Bike Conversion Scheme
During a press conference, Minister Aurangzeb revealed that this incentive is part of Punjab's broader environmental protection strategy. The provincial government is implementing multiple initiatives to combat pollution and increase green cover across the region.
The minister explained that in addition to the electric bike conversion reward, citizens who switch their lighting to LED bulbs will receive carbon green credits as part of the energy efficiency program.
Punjab's Comprehensive Environmental Protection Plan
The Punjab government has launched several interconnected environmental projects:
- The PHA's "Plant For Pakistan" campaign aims to increase Punjab's green cover through urban forests
- Installation of Punjab's first smog guns to combat air pollution
- Creation of a technology-based fire control force for forest protection
- Planting of 300,000 saplings around Lahore's Ring Road
- Installation of 7 air quality monitors in the Punjab Air Quality System.

Minister Aurangzeb announced that Lahore residents can call 1399 to have plants delivered to their homes free of charge. "This plant is a gift from Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz for the citizens of Lahore," she stated.

The minister acknowledged Lahore's decade-long smog issues and assured that the Punjab government is implementing concrete measures to control air pollution.
